Trisha is the best. The girls have learned so much from their training retreat. I cannot thank Trisha enough for her patience and listening to what is important to our needs. I just hope I can continue their learning in an effective manner. Moreover, I feel like I have a resource when things don’t go as planned to get us back on track and someone I can trust with my fur babies when we are away. If you are looking to gain a trusting and well behaved companion, look no further, The Pawington Inn training academy is your answer.

Trisha trained me and my English Bulldog/Pitbull mix Ava on being able to be around other dogs. Ava gets anxious and turns aggressive. Trisha was very knowledgeable, and firm yet aware of Ava’s needs. I say she trained me because explained thoroughly what I need to do to correct Ava’s behavior/when praise should be given. Most trainers are scared to take on a pitbull but she was not afraid. After a few minutes, Ava could sit calmly 8 feet away from her dog and not freak out. Ava is a shelter dog, and when another dog is in sight, she freaks out. I will be using Trisha again for training as she knows what she’s doing, she’s a good hang, and she’s aware of when the dog has had enough.

We have a Anatolian Shepherd puppy that Trisha has helped train. In fact, she is in her 2nd session now. Trisha has worked with our dog, Molly, for a few weeks. She taught her to listen, to quit jumping on people and to stop biting. I was concern that training outside the home would break her spirit but just the opposite happened. She has trained her with positive reinforcement. After her first session we could tell how much Molly respected and liked Trisha. Trisha is open to questions, suggestions and individual lifestyles of how the dog will live. She respects the dog.

Frequently Asked Questions

What training tools do you use?

We use treats, toys, your dog’s food, e-collars, slip-leads, praise and prong collars to establish communication with your dog.

Where does my dog stay when they’re with you?

Your dog will stay in our home during their board & train! Your dog will learn to be the best version of themselves in a comfortable, relatable home setting, not a facility. This means your dog learns in an environment that includes all of those everyday things, like doorbells, kids, dinner and guests. Your dog will never be left alone at night. We will take outings to various stores, parks and coffee shops to practice their new skills in everyday places with all the real distractions.

Will there be homework for me after the board & train?

Definitely! The foundation of the work is already done, but obedience is very much reliant on the individual human-dog relationship. Following through with the recommendations given will ensure that your dog doesn’t revert back to their old behaviors.

What’s your availability like? When can my dog come to training?

We are currently booking out about 3 months. We take a limited number of training dogs (2/3) at a time to provide quality training for all our clients. We promise to be worth the wait!

How much are eCollars?

We only use and recommend Ecollar Technologies collars. These are a high quality product utilizing the TENs unit technology. These go home with all our board and train dogs over 5 months. They do range in price, as some dogs will require different accessories based on their hair length, allergies, and sensitivities. We will purchase this for you during dogs stay. On their own they start in price for $250 for a base setup.

Will the E-collar hurt my dog?

The e-collar will not harm your dog. It can be momentarily uncomfortable, to stop unwanted behaviors– but this is a very small part of e collar work. The majority of what we do is training at your dog’s “perception level”, which is very low. This is the same as a TENS (transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation) unit used in a physical therapist’s office.

When can I pet my dog?

Affection is a reward. After your dog returns home from the program, save affection for moments when your dog is doing something you love. Remember, you get what you pet. Make sure you are reinforcing a behavior you want more of.
